Detailed Itinerary of 7 Days Uganda Safari

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala, you will be met by our representative and start your journey to Kibale Forest National Park. Along the journey you will make several stops for photos, enjoy lunch in Fort Portal as you watch the beautiful views of Rwenzori Mountains. Arrive at your lodge in late afternoon and spend the evening at rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking – Bigodi Swamp Walk   

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing, a UWA ranger will take you through rules and regulations to follow while in the presence of chimpanzees. Head into the forest searching for the chimpanzees led by armed ranger guides, expect to the several other primate species as well as birds.

The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the chimpanzees, spend one hour with them as you watch them play, feed and groom each other. You are free to take as many beautiful photos as possible. For photographers, you will have ample time to take amazing photos and videos of chimpanzees and other creatures in the forest.

Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, head to Bigodi Swamp for a forest walk. Here you will enjoy watch more primates including black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons as well as many bird species.

Day 3: Drive to Bwindi Forest 

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park known for hosting the rare tree climbing lions and if you are lucky you will watch lions resting on fig tree branches. Also, you will see other animals such as lions, leopards, cape buffaloes, gazelles, antelopes among others.

Enjoy en-route lunch. Arrive in Bwindi in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Gorilla Habituation Experience

Wake up early for breakfast, head to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla habituation experience. A senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow and in groups of 4 people together with scientists and researchers, head into the forest searching for a semi-habituated gorilla family.

The trek takes a full day of following the gorillas using several trails. When you locate the gorilla family, you will spend four hours in their presence as you observe their various traits, characters and join scientists and researchers in collecting samples and naming them.

After this immersive experience, return to the starting point to pick your certificates and return to the lodge for an evening of rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Forest Hiking Experience – Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Wake up early for breakfast, meet your driver guide and head back to Bwindi Forest for a guided forest walk, giving you an opportunity to explore the rich ecology of the park. Led by a knowledgeable guide, you will be able to identify and discuss several flora and fauna species of interest.

Your walk leads you to one of the beautiful waterfalls of Bwindi – the Munyaga Waterfall. The hike lasts about three hours, trek back to the starting point, meet your driver-guide and head to Lake Bunyonyi where you will arrive in time for lunch at your lodge after checking in. Enjoy a short rest and later go out for either a canoe experience or guided walk.

Day 6: Full Day Exploring Lake Bunyonyi

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the lodge, then head out for a full day of exploring on a canoeing experience and cultural encounters.

The canoeing experience offers a peaceful and picturesque experience, done in dugout canoe or motorized boat, island hopping across the lake’s islands which are 29 in total. There is so much to see and capture on these beautiful islands, with your experienced guide you will identify several birds, hear the amazing legends behind each island and meet the local people for a cultural experience.

Visit the Batwa Community for a cultural experience, here you will be entertained by local dances and drama, interact with the local people giving you a deeper insight into their lifestyle, culture and traditions.

Day 7:  Morning Boat – Transfer back to Kampala 

Have a leisurely morning, enjoy your breakfast and go for a walk along the lake shores. If you are good at swimming you can take a dip into the lake’s bilharzia free water. Later, check out and embark on a journey back to Kampala with en-route lunch in Mbarara. Your guide will drop you off at the airport for your flight back home.
